General Competition Questions

What exactly is "The Picker’s Circuit"? It is a national competition series that partners with existing festivals across the U.S. to find the best acoustic talent. We provide the structure and the national prize pool; the festivals provide the stage!

Does it cost anything to enter? Yes, there is a non-refundable $25 application fee. The best part? 100% of these fees from across the country are pooled together to create the prize money for the top three National Winners in Murfreesboro.

Is there an age limit? You must be 18 or older to compete solo. If you are under 18, you are more than welcome to compete as long as you have a legal guardian present at the event.

Can I enter more than once? You may enter multiple regional qualifiers if you don't win the first one, but each new festival application requires a separate $25 entry fee.

Instrumental & Performance Rules

What instruments are allowed? We focus on the "big five" of acoustic picking: Acoustic Guitar, Banjo, Fiddle/Violin, and Upright Bass.

Can my band have a drummer? Yes, but with a twist! To keep the focus on the picking, bands are limited to one (1) single drum (like a snare, cajon, or kick drum). No full drum kits are permitted.

Do I have to sing? Only if you want to! Singing is allowed, but our judges score primarily on instrumental proficiency. A world-class picker who doesn't sing has just as much chance as a singer-songwriter.

Can I use an electric guitar or pedals? No. This is an acoustic championship. While you can use internal pickups to plug into the stage sound system, electric guitars and synthesized effects (distortion, delay, etc.) are not allowed.

The Finals in Murfreesboro

What happens if I win my local festival? You become a Sanctioned State Champion! You will receive an official invitation to the National Finals in Murfreesboro, TN, to compete for the grand prize.

Who pays for my travel? Competitors are responsible for their own travel to the finals. However, we are currently working with partners to provide two nights of lodging for all state winners in Murfreesboro (TBD).
